I do not recommend youth workshops for students until they are 8 or 9 years old. This will vary with the individual child and will be considered on an individual basis. While 12 year old students do qualify for the adult workshops, I will also allow them to take the youth series.

These workshops last a total of 6 days with the first 5 days being devoted entirely to practice. Each of these first 5 days will run for 90 to 120 minutes. Day one will begin with a new 16 x 20 practice canvas. At the end of each session that canvas will be cleaned so it can be used the following day. I will take pictures of during each session and at the end of the workshop those will be put into a slide show presentation which will be given the the student. It will also be posted on my web site. After 5 days of practice, we will begin with a brand new 16 x 20 canvas and will use the techniques learned to complete a painting which will be framed and ready to hang.

Here are pictures taken during the recent workshop of Ayda Bowman including the final masterpiece completed after her 5 days of practice: Ayda has just turned 12 and is now creating her own paintings at home.

With the youth series I prefer to work with only one student in the class. This way I can work at a pace that fits that individual. I will consider two in a workshop with so long as the parents of each child agree to this arrangement.

The cost per student is $200.00. This includes the following items:

  • Two 16 x 20 canvases.
  • Use of all brushes required
  • Paint
  • Apron to wear in class
  • 16 x 20 frame for final painting
