Synesthesia

There is so much about this world that I am unaware of or don’t understand. The other day it was suggested that I look at the work by Melissa McCracken who has a condition called Synesthesia.

Synesthesia is where a person has dual senses for every stimuli that they are introduced to. Melissa is one who has this condition and in her case when she hears music she sees colors in her mind. This made no sense to me, so I looked on line to see what I could learn. Now, I have no further understanding how this works or how it manifests itself, but the paintings that she does are really remarkable. I would like to show you some of what I found and you can decide if you like it.

Lets begin with Melissa explaining it while she paints… CHECK THIS OUT.

I think you will agree that she has an unusual ability.. If you would like to learn more about the condition, THIS MIGHT HELP.  In addition to showing her work, there is a TED presentation explaining how Synesthesia manifests itself. (I did not understand it at all)

And finally, if you are interested in following her work. Here is a link to her FACEBOOK PAGE.

And if you are thinking about a valentines outing please consider a Date Night Coupon. One just like this:

  1. I just read a book called “The Woman Who Heard Color” by Kelly Jones (an Idaho Author) that ties to this. It’s historical fiction based on real events around the WW II timeframe. The characters are involved in trying to protect the art the Nazis were set on destroying. I find the idea of synesthesia fascinating!
